About YouTube Ads

Currently, YouTube Ads are mainly placed on the YouTube website and the YouTube mobile app.

YouTube Ads can target users by demographic characteristics (e.g., age, gender, marital status), behaviour on the platform, and interests.

Companies can also use past data to segment their customers and target new users with similar characteristics to existing users to expand their audience for further ad targeting.

The types of YouTube Ads have been changing in recent years. The current main types are as follows: 

Skippable In-Stream Ad

Skippable In-Stream Ad plays before, during, or after videos are played. After 5 seconds of videos are played, the viewer can choose to skip the ad.

Non-Skippable In-Stream Ad

Non-Skippable In-Stream Ad is no more than 15 seconds in length and can be played before, during, or after videos are played. Viewers do not have the option to skip these ads.

In-Feed Video Ad

In-Feed Video Ad consists of a thumbnail image taken from a video and some text. After a user clicks on it, the video will play on the YouTube page or on the channel’s home page.

Bumper Ad

Bumper Ad is no more than 6 seconds long and can be played before, during, or after videos are played. Viewers do not have the option to skip these ads.

Masthead Ad

Masthead Ad is a video ad that plays at the top of YouTube's desktop and mobile versions, as well as on TV screens. When users click on the ad or thumbnail, they will be redirected to the YouTube page to watch the video. 

Some of the ad formats available in Google Ads are also available in YouTube Ads, such as text ads, display ads, and responsive ads.

YouTube Ads formats are mainly video-based.

Video Ads appear before, during, or after videos are played. They can also be displayed on the playlist page. Other text, image, and responsive ads appear below the player, or in the feed of recommended videos. 

YouTube Ads charges similarly to other platforms, which is determined by the marketing goal and budget. Companies can decide their own budget. Regardless of the business type or how little you spend, the ads will be displayed to some Internet users.

You can set a single day or total budget for an ad, depending on how much you are willing to spend. The amount of the budget will vary depending on the industry, company, product, and other information.
